I have covered the questions people usually ask me below. If yours is not there, give me a call. Most technology problems do not fit neatly into a list.
Getting started
Calls, visits and availability
Do I need to know what is wrong before I call?
No. Just describe what you can see, what has stopped working and when it started. I’ll ask a few straightforward questions and work out the most sensible next step.
Is the initial phone call free?
Yes. A quick phone chat costs nothing and there is no obligation to book. I’ll tell you honestly whether an onsite visit sounds worthwhile.
Where do you provide onsite support?
I provide onsite support throughout the Illawarra and Southern Highlands for homes and businesses.
When can I call, and are same-day visits available?
Calls are welcome from 8:00am to 5:30pm, seven days a week. Same-day appointments are often available, but they cannot always be guaranteed.
Services
Technology problems I can help with
Do you support Windows and Macintosh computers, plus iPhone and Android phones?
Yes. I support Windows PCs and Macintosh (Mac) desktop and laptop computers, as well as iPhones and Android phones. I can help with setup, slow performance, software problems, email, moving your files, syncing, backups and other everyday issues. I also support iPads and other tablets, printers, Outlook, Microsoft 365 and iCloud. If you need a new device, I can help you choose the right one.
Can you fix slow internet, unreliable Wi-Fi or NBN problems?
Yes. I can look into slow internet and NBN problems, set up or replace modems and routers, fix Wi-Fi dead spots and install mesh Wi-Fi. I also work with home and business networks, UniFi equipment and VPNs.
Can you set up smart-home equipment and simple controls on iPads or tablets?
Yes. I can set up iPads and other tablets around your home as simple control panels for lights, heating and other smart devices. I will arrange them so they are clear and easy for everyone in the house to use. I also work with Home Assistant, smart lights, blinds, sensors, locks, cameras and speakers, as well as Alexa, Google, Siri, TVs, streaming devices, Sonos, multi-room audio and home-theatre equipment.
Can you help with security, scams, backups or data?
Yes. I can check the security of your computers and network, set up password managers and multi-factor authentication, and help with scams or phishing concerns. I also set up cloud and local backups, NAS and Synology systems, file transfers and recovery plans.
Do you help businesses with networking and IT?
Yes. Networking is one of my main strengths. I can design and set up cabled and Wi-Fi networks for businesses, troubleshoot slow or unreliable connections, and improve speed, coverage and reliability. I can also configure routers, switches, business Wi-Fi, shared storage and secure remote access. Other business help includes office and staff-computer setup, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, backups, Windows Server, Active Directory, planning and purchasing.
Can you help with AI tools or photography technology?
Yes. I can set up and explain ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools. I also help with Lightroom, Capture One, photo backups, NAS workflows, monitor calibration, colour management and choosing a computer for photo editing.
Pricing
Clear costs before work begins
What does a standard onsite visit cost?
A standard onsite visit is $179. That includes travel within the Illawarra and Southern Highlands, finding the problem and up to an hour of hands-on help. Most everyday problems are resolved within that hour. Additional time for larger jobs is charged at $110 per hour.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No. There is no deposit and nothing to pay in advance. Payment is due when the agreed work is completed.
Will you tell me if I do not need to spend money?
Yes. I will work out what is actually wrong first and explain the practical options. If you do not need a new device or an expensive upgrade, I will tell you.
Will I receive a tax invoice?
Yes. Wiznerd Tech Services is an Australian sole trader registered for GST (ABN 54 924 229 858). You will receive a clear tax invoice and receipt after the visit.
Still not sure whether I cover it?
Call me and tell me what is happening. I will let you know what I think the most sensible next step is. There is no obligation to book.
